Time management is an important thing.
I say this as I am rushing to finish a task for a deadline...
It has become very clear that the most important thing to learn during this time as a fresh face in the marketing industry is time management. After all, if I cannot master this skill how will I be effective in an industry that changes by the hour?
Managing your time means managing your boundaries
Since starting my new professional endeavours, it has been my number one goal to do my best to make sure everything gets done in an efficient and timely manner. If my employers and clients see that I am doing a good job, it reflects well on them and helps increase my skill on the job. When I am unable to do that, we run into problems.
One thing I have noticed since jumping into this world is my lack of time, for everything.
It turns out, everything takes time. It takes time to create content, it takes time to research, it takes time to write, it takes time to shoot, it takes time to be a marketer.
So how do I manage it all without losing sight of what matters?
Tools are not just meant to sit on a shelf
To say I leaned into project management tools to help my productivity problem is an understatement.
I became the productivity tools.
With various tasks popping up throughout the day, including community management, copywriting, and research tasks, it was clear to me that I needed to find a way to manage all my deliverables without losing my head, so I reached out to the team for their input.
Finding the right productivity tool is like finding the right pair of jeans
It has to fit the way you want it to fit.
I took several meetings with various team members to get their take on the best productivity tools at my disposal. I heard the Asana pitch, and the Trello pitch, but the one that stood out to me was Notion.
Notion had the most options for customization and multi-level productivity. It offered the opportunity to not only manage my internship tasks but also my freelance tasks, and personal tasks.
I jumped feet first and downloaded my life onto the platform.
And now I’ve never looked back.
